History

About Chalet Vauban

Built in 1692 for King Louis XIV's architect Monsieur Vauban, the Serre Chevalier chalet takes its name from the well-known historical figure.
During his military career, Vauban built 33 forts and fortified walled towns, and strengthened 300 others all around the coasts and borders of France. The famous Vauban fortifications above Briancon are a prime example of his work.
Vauban attained the title of "Maréchal of France" in 1703, but fell from favour with Louis XIV in 1706 - a year before he died.
Chalet Vauban has been renovated and updated to offer a modern style and appealing ambiance, whilst retaining the original and distinctive character of its origin.
